Jasmin Coleman (6) and Amy Potter (5) led the scoring as Exeter finished an undefeated women’s Division 2 campaign with an easy 20-2 defeat of Welsh Wanderers at Haberdashers today.

The Devon side will be joined in Championship 1 by Rotherham Metro, Liverpool Liver Birds, City of Bristol and Mid Sussex Marlins. Welsh Wanderers, Sheffield Stingrays and Birmingham go to Championship 2.

OTTER EDGE THRILLER

Otter staged a tremendous rally in the final two minutes to steal a 9-8 victory over Coventry in women’s Division 1 at Haberdashers today (13 November).

When the final period began, the teams were level at 6-6. Two strikes by Vicki Hawkins then edged Coventry into an 8-6 lead before Mhairi Nurthen and Katy Cutler equalised. Then, after a flurry of time-outs, Rebecca Mulcahy netted the Otter winner - with just one second remaining!

Hucknall scored seven goals without reply in the second quarter – by Cara Dunsbee (4) and India Wilkinson (3) - on the way to a 14-7 win against Caledonia.

Runaway leaders City of Manchester once again emphasised their overall superiority, hammering Tyldesley 25-7 and then Sheffield Sharks 26-8 at East Manchester. Liverpool Lizards ensured a place in the Super 5s with a 21-15 victory over Tyldesley.

EXETER STAY TOP

13/11/2021

Exeter retained their unbeaten record in women’s Division 2 at Haberdashers, defeating City of Bristol 15-8 today (13 November).

Later, Exeter withstood a late rally from Mid Sussex Marlins to clinch another win - 14-12. Nyah Tomlinson (4), Jasmin Coleman (3) and Lucy Chard-Maple (3) were the leading scorers.

Bristol improved their chances of a top five place – and progress to Championship 1 – by beating Welsh Wanderers 10-3.

Rotherham Metro made certain of Championship 1 progress by defeating Liverpool Liver Birds 10-6. The division’s leading scorer, Emily Crossley, took her tally for the season to 26 with a four-goal contribution.

EASY FOR TOP TWO

Cheltenham and City of Manchester effectively secured their passages to the men’s Super 5s with further wins today.

The remaining places will be fought over when the Division 1 finale takes place at Coventry on 27/28 November – with none of the remaining six teams completely out of contention.

It was another routine day for Manchester at Matlock, where Dan Paddon scored five in a 13-3 defeat of Solihull. Cheltenham beat Welsh Wanderers 14-6 at Aldershot.

Closest game of the day saw Invicta defeat Polytechnic 11-9. Early in the final period, Invicta led 10-6. Poly then rallied with goals by Sergio Schiaffino, Nick Hock and Pedro Stellet before Callum Bailey’s third goal eased Invicta’s nerves 1.13 from the end.

TYLDESLEY TONIC

7/11/2021

Tyldesley began the final weekend of men’s Division 4 action at Matlock without a single point – but ended up (only just) taking fifth place and therefore qualifying for Championship 3 in the New Year.

Success was achieved thanks to a big win over York City on day one, followed by three more points today – from a 10-8 defeat of Sheffield Dolphins and a nail-biting 12-12 draw with Bridgefield.

Tyldesley looked comfortable against Bridgefield as hat-tricks by Oliver Rhodes, Adam Toone and Neil Williams secured a 12-10 lead a minute from the end. But Bridgefield scored through Jacob Graham with 43 seconds to go; then Alex Sanders equalised with just 13 seconds left.

At Aldershot, Southampton beat the British Army 14-4 to complete a perfect Division 5 campaign – seven wins out of seven. They progress confidently to Championship 3 alongside Rotherham Metro, whose goalkeeper George Jackson scored twice in the last minute of a 21-13 win against Newport, the Army, Newport and Tyldesley. Sheffield Dolphins, York City and Bridgefield go to Championship 4.

DOUBLE TRIUMPH FOR CHELTENHAM

6/11/2021

Cheltenham made it four wins from four matches in men's Division 1 when they followed up a 10-7 victory over Polytechnic with a thrilling 10-9 success against Invicta at Aldershot today.

Invicta trailed 3-1 early on but recovered superbly to lead 8-5 at the start of what proved to be an action-packed third period. That prompted a Cheltenham revival as they pulled up to 9-9 with a breakaway goal by Will Rayson, who scored again shortly afterwards.

There were no more goals. A highly-charged final quarter produced just one exclusion and three time-outs.

Later, Welsh Wanderers pulled off a remarkable 14-13 victory over Polytechnic, scoring six times without reply in the fourth period.

Meanwhile, at Matlock, champions Manchester scored five without reply in the final period to see off Sheffield 12-4. Lancaster's 18-12 defeat of Solihull featured an outstanding nine-goal contribution from John Pratt.

In men's Division 4, Newport improved their hopes of a top five place when a goal in the last second by Matt Veale salvaged an 11-11 draw with the British Army. Southampton maintained their 100 per cent record from six games, beating Rotherham 12-5. Charles Roberts' four goals took his tally for the season to 31.

At Matlock, Tyldesley's Addison Brown scored nine as Tyldesley outplayed York City 17-4 for their first win of the season. Bridgefield also notched their first victory - 12-7 against Sheffield Dolphins.
