PADBURY BOOSTS LANCASTER

30/8/2022

Following the withdrawal of Solihull men from BWPL, Ryan Padbury, the club’s top marksman in last season’s Super 5s, has joined Lancaster.

The giant left-hander (Photo:  Trevor Hyde) will add considerable firepower to a Lancaster squad that already includes the likes of Tom Curwen and Glen Robinson.

Padbury must wait to make a debut for his new club as it’s not until 8/9 October that men's Division 1 makes a start at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

The full League programme gets under way this weekend when men’s Divisions 4 and 5 play matches at the Jason Kenny Centre, Bolton, and Haberdashers School. Both will take place, as scheduled.

The following weekend – 24/25 September – women's teams take over Ponds Forge for a full schedule of games in Divisions 1, 2 and 3.

DEATH OF FORMER LEAGUE PRESIDENT

14/8/2022

It is with great sadness that BWPL announces the death of Gordon Dacre, the first President of the League from its launch in 2010 until 2013.

Gordon’s playing career was with Everton, a club which featured in the top division of the former men’s National League from 1972 to 1986 and twice finished runners-up to champions Polytechnic.

He then concentrated on coaching and helping develop many fine players – including his four daughters (Joanne, Alison, Helen and Kathryn) – for his beloved City of Liverpool Club.

Liverpool’s triumph at the inaugural Champions Cup event in May will be seen as a lasting tribute to a man who gave so much to his club and to the sport in general.

BWPL offers its condolences to Gordon’s wife Jean and family.

The service to celebrate Gordon's life will be held a St Mary's Church, Grassendale, St Mary's Road, Liverpool L19 ONE, on Tuesday, 30 August, 11.30am.

Everyone is warmly invited to join the family for light refreshments at The Reader Mansion House, Calederstones Park L18 3JB, immediately following the service. Donations in memory of Gordon may be made to the hospitals which cared for him. RCharity - Supporting the Royal and Broadgreen, www.rlbuht.nhs.uk/charity.

VOUNTEERS STEP FORWARD!

13/8/2022

The League has received a terrific response from volunteers offering to help out as table officials at this season’s events.

So much so that already a grand total of 14 qualified people have been added to the new panel!

BWPL is now organising a welcome call for all newcomers via one of two Zoom sessions – a chance to introduce everyone to the League, its key personnel and explain any requirements relating to the key role of table official. Both those sessions are now fully booked!

Volunteers who are not yet qualified have been invited to attend a table officials’ course during the season so that they qualify and gain practical experience of national level competition.
