Watford wasted no time in taking control against Hucknall in men's Division 3 at Lancaster, racing into a 9-1 lead before their opponents stirred into action. The game ended 11-6 to Watford, who also beat University of Bristol 17-6 to maintain a 100 per cent record from five games.
Birmingham also have a perfect record from five matches, but were made to battle hard for the points against Southampton. The sides were level on 5-5 in the third period, but then goals by Sean Smith (2) and Matt Foulds put Birmingham 8-5 up. Southampton responded with a couple of goals but ended up losing 8-7.
In Division 4 at Walsall, a major traffic hold-up thwarted Castleford, who were unable to field a team for their crunch match with Ealing.
Neil Swainson scored seven for South Derbyshire against Cheltenham Spartans, but still ended on the losing side - 20-17. Cambridge, who were victorious against Grantham and Bridgefield, and Cheltenham both have four wins from five matches.
