Championship 3 continued to produce the tightest of finishes as Ealing maintained their promotion hopes with a 20-19 defeat of Bridegfield and Otter squeezed home 11-10 against York City.
City of Cambridge retained a precious one-point lead in men's Championship 3 at Gloucester today after drawing 14-14 in a thriller with nearest rivals Castleford. Chris Scotney claimed the final equaliser for Cambridge with just 10 seconds remaining. Cambridge had held a narrow lead for much of the game and went from 10-9 to 12-9 three minutes into the final period; then 13-11 with two and half minutes to go. Declan Thompson (pictured by Trevor Hyde) then led a superb Castleford counterattack, scoring three fine goals to edge his side into the lead for the first time at 14-13 just 41 seconds from the end. Then Castleford had a player excluded and, after calling a time-out, Cambridge levelled through Scotney.
