Five-goal Declan Thompson was the dominant player for Castleford for much of the game. But Hawks took over the final stages, closing the gap to 10-8 with two and a half minutes remaining when James Salt claimed his fourth goal. James Moffat cut the margin again, this time with 75 seconds left.
It was left to Salt to convert the equalising man-up opportunity 48 seconds from the end.
Two goals apiece for Danny Rippon, Nick Boaz and Ben Pacey (pictured by Trevor Hyde) helped York City build an 11-6 lead after three periods against Portobello. Neilson Rutherford claimed a hat-trick for the Scots in the last quarter but York held on for a 12-10 victory.
