English Roses stepped up their challenge for the women's Championship title with a vital win over Manchester Comets at Leeds University today. The two sides had drawn their previous meeting 9-9.
Roses eased into a 5-2 lead in the second quarter but, by the end of the third, goals by Annie and Maisy Clapperton brought the Comets back to 6-6. It remained close until the last three minutes when Louise Betts scored her fifth goal of the game for Roses and Michaela Smith added another.
In Championship 1 at Matlock, Otter Lutra and their big rivals Leeds Sharks remained undefeated after wins over Tyldesley 15-10 and Welsh Wanderers, 12-3.
