Leaders Rotherham Metro, winners against Cheltenham on day one of the latest round of matches at Northampton, dropped a point for the first time when they were held to a 7-7 draw by Penguin Emperors. At the same time, Liverpool Liver Birds beat English Roses 9-6, to finish a just point behind Rotherham – leaving the meeting of Rotherham and the Liver Birds as a possible championship decider on the finale weekend.
Rotherham were perhaps relieved to finish with a point against Penguin, who, by the start of the third period, had raced into a 6-1 lead with goals by Rachel Bull (2), Emma Christie, Mia Mutadich, Alice Woods and Ella Irwin. Rotherham gradually hauled themselves back into the game, eventually edging ahead at 7-6 when Emily Crossley scored. Woods claimed the final goal for Penguin 2.36 from the end.
An early hat-trick by Ella-Louise Jones proved vital as Exeter beat Otter Lutra 8-6, putting the Devon side in third place. Sofia Fountain scored four in Cheltenham’s 12-8 defeat of Southampton.
