Women's Division Three club Sunderland will be thrilled to have picked up their first win of the season at Marlborough College (19 October) - 6-5 against Penguin Rockhoppers. But it will be penalty practice for the Penguin girls when next they train! They somehow contrived to miss FOUR - two of them in a chaotic final two minutes.
At that stage, the teams were locked at 5-5. Miss followed miss before Ashley Yeo claimed the points for Sunderland with a goal 19 seconds from the end.
English Roses topped the division with a 100 per cent record from their six matches. Their 5-2 win against Leeds Hammerheads would have been more emphatic but for a series of fine saves by young Leeds goalkeeper Sophie Jackson. Devonport underlined their improvement with an 11-7 victory over Southampton, including five goals by Angie Galea and four from Bethany Ward.
