Cheltenham, beaten 8-6 by Solihull earlier in the day, charged ahead 5-0 in the first quarter with goals by Jake Polster, Will Rayson, Rob Parker, Matt Witcomb and Giulio Sartorello. From then on, it was a matter of Manchester chipping away at the lead - 5-3 after two periods, then 7-5 to Cheltenham after three.
In the final period, Manchester drew level through Mike Patterson and Eleftherios Chelioudalis, but it wasn't until less than two minutes from the end that Manchester edged ahead for the first time at 8-7 thanks to a Joe O'Regan goal. O'Regan added a penalty with seconds remaining.
In the women's Super 5s, also at Haberdashers, City of Coventry remained very much in the title race with a 12-8 victory over Liverpool Lizards. Kimberley Watson (Photo: Trevor Hyde) scored five and Vicki Hawkins three. Then champions Otter outplayed Caledonia 21-7. Lily Turner (6), Erin Andrew (5) and Robyn Greenslade (4) led the scoring.
Manchester beat Liverpool LIzards 14-7, avenging a single-goal defeat when the sides met earlier in the campaign. Honor Grimes was on target for Manchester with five.
