The last time the reigning champions lost in BWPL was way back in January 2019 when, once again, the party was spoiled by Liverpool – 11-10.
The latest clash was close all the way through. Katie Hesketh’s three goals helped give Liverpool a narrow lead but the sides were level at 5-5 when Emmie-Rose Eastwood netted for Manchester early in the final period. The winner, from Molly Boniface-Adams, came 2.46 from the end.
In another closely-fought women’s Super 5s match, Coventry claimed their second win of the weekend – 7-6 against Sheffield Sharks. Boosted by a couple of goals from Anna Motley, Sheffield recovered from 6-3 down to 6-6 only for Rhianne Oscroft to grab the Coventry winner with 1.49 remaining.
In the men’s Super 5s, Manchester continued to dominate as Spilios Kaloudis scored three in a 13-4 defeat of Solihull. A four-goal spurt in the second period gave Lancaster the edge against Sheffield, setting up a 9-8 win.
Hucknall completed the first weekend of women's Championship 1 matches at Matlock with three victories. The won twice on day two - 16-6 against Liverpool Liver Birds and 11-7 against Rotherham Metro.
