Mid Sussex Marlins are in pole position to win women's Championship 2 after chief rivals City of Bristol dropped a point in an 8-8 draw with Sheffield Stringrays at Northampton today - but it's not over yet.
The Marlins and Bristol are scheduled to meet on the final afternoon of the season at Walsall on 3/4 March. If both teams can win their matches on day one, it could well be a title decider.
Isobel Bates again led Marlins' charge to a 14-6 victory over Cheltenham. She scored six, which took her weekend tally from three matches to 16 and her total in five Championship 2 games to 30. Olivia Henderson and Annah Bowles both add two goals.
Bristol were 5-2 up early in the third period against the Stingrays but the Sheffield side hit back to lead 6-5 at the start of the last. Once again, Bristol edged ahead at 8-6, only for a man-up goal from Jess Shallow and another strike from Meghan Scadding to force the draw.
Birmingham retained their challenge for a top three place - and progress to Division 2 at the start of next season - with a comfortable 13-7 defeat of Welsh Wanderers.
