City of Coventry breezed into a 6-1 first quarter lead against City of Manchester but in the end had to hang on for a 9-8 victory in the women's Super 5s at Sunderland Aquatic Centre today (15 November).

Manchester actually won the last three quarters - 2-1, 3-1 and 2-1 - but couldn't quite avoid defeat in the end. Olympian Fran Clayton was again in top form for the Midlands team, scoring four times.

I was disapointed the original news article has been removed and replaced with this inaccurate news
This match is the first time in bwpl that Coventry have beaten manchester in the super 5's. The match was hard fought by both teams and Coventry took a narrow deserved victory
As the original news article pointed out this follows the recent victory by Coventry over Manchester in this seasons preliminary stages. The result is the progression of the whole squad and the result reflects the efforts of all of the girls involved

Fair comment! You will appreciate that, when not attending events, I can only base reports on information received and changes are made very quickly. I intend to write a further piece about today's women's matches and will highlight the success of Coventry this weekend when that is published.
