DEATH OF JOHN VINCENT

27/7/2018

Solihull have announced the sudden death of John Vincent, a great supporter of his club, the British League and British water polo in general.

His son is Jake Vincent, Solihull's captain and a member of Great Britain's 2012 Olympic team.

The funeral takes place at the Robin Hood Crematorium, Streetsbrook Road, Shirley B90 3NL on Friday, 3 August, 2pm, followed by a reception at Copt Heath Golf Club, Knowle, B93 9LL.

NEW NAME IN BWPL TOP DIVISION

25/7/2018

The British League Committee have agreed an application from Team Northumbria to transfer their base to Durham University and to remain in the top men's division this season under a new name - Durham Palatinates.

The move is a result of Northumberland University's decision to withdraw funding from their teams competing in non-student national leagues in a variety of sports.

Durham met all guarantees required by BWPL, including registrations and finance. Last season's Team Northumbria squad will transfer to Durham, augmented by current Durham students.

The two universities have worked together in recent years, resulting in Team Northumbria including in their BWPL team overseas players benefiting from Durham scholarships.

Historical note! Palatines were high level administrative officials attached to European imperial or royal courts dating back to Roman times. These days, palatinates are awarded to Durham University's most successful athletes - the equivalent of a blue at Oxford or Cambridge.

JACK IN THE LIMELIGHT

Picture
Jack Pickford, of Watford, has found himself very much a centre of attention following a recent photo shoot at his club.

His picture, snapped by Fabio de Paolo, was published recently in the Guardian's Weekender Magazine and has now been shortlisted for the 2018 British Journal of Photography's Portrait of Britain award:

Jack and his Speedos will also feature in the first-ever Portrait of Britain book.
