SUN, FUN . . . AND WATER POLO

29/3/2015

Fancy taking part in a water polo tournament with a difference? The second annual Barbados open event takes place on 13-17 August this year and will attract teams of all ages from many nations.

Click on https://www.facebook.com/pages/Barbados-Water-Polo-Club/396805403695829?fref=ts for more information or contact BWPL's Barbadian referee Andre Ferdinand, ferdzas@gmail.com, who says that, if now it's too late for you to consider entering this year, you can always plan ahead and go for it in 2016!

BAKU HERE WE COME . . .

19/3/2015

Congratulations to GB under-17 girls, who qualified for the inaugural European Games in Baku by finishing second on goal difference behind France in their qualifying tournament.

It made all the selling of cakes and other initiatives to self-fund their participation - as reported on the BWPL website - so worthwhile!

GB enjoyed two whopping wins - 30-0 against Switzerland and 26-3 against Portugal. They drew 8-8 with Czech Republic and went down 13-12 to France.

There was heartbreak for GB under-17 boys in their qualifying tournament. They overwhelmed Latvia 53-0, beat Switzerland 12-1 and lost 19-7 to a powerful German side. Qualification depended on the final match against Malta - which they lost 7-6.

CARLISLE QUIT BWPL

13/3/2015

Three months after winning men's Championship 2, Carlisle have resigned from BWPL due to financial problems.

It means further alterations to the structure of the League at the start of the 2015/16 season. Manchester Hawks take Carlisle's place in Division Two; Watford go up to Division Three; and Grantham to Division Four.

The League had already made adjustments following the decision of Super 5s club Portobello to drop out. But the overall strength of the men's competition remains. Although Portobello, 2nd City Birmingham and now Carlisle have gone, Division Five will feature two new clubs in September - City of Leeds, Tyldesley - as well as welcoming a Portobello development side.

BWPL WELCOMES BACK OLD FRIENDS!

3/3/2015

Portobello will be competing in the British League again next season after all - in men's Division Five!

Having pulled out of the top division due to the impending loss of a number of senior players, the Scottish club successfully applied to enter a development team.

They will be joined in Division Five by two clubs who also have development of young players very much as a priority - City of Leeds and Tyldesley. Both are returning to BWPL after a few years' absence having rebuilt their squads from scratch.

In addition to Portobello's Division One side, 2nd City Birmingham have also resigned from the League. But the addition of Portobello, Leeds and Tyldesley means that the lowest division will begin next season with a full complement of eight sides.
