The RAF has a long association with BWPL, or its predecessor, the former men's National League. Most recently, the RAF competed for three seasons in Division 4 - 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Way back in 1966, the RAF were also founder members of the National League's new second division, finishing as runners-up to York City.
Sadly, the involvement ended there. Teams arranged their own fixtures in those days on a home and away basis and the RAF wanted to play the bulk of their games in 1967 over a few days – so they could bring a strong squad together.
The NWPL committee at the time felt this wasn’t in the true spirit of a league competition and said No. The RAF withdrew.
