In truth, it’s not something we planned months ago. Neither, it is acknowledged, will it happen without the teams involved being put to some inconvenience. But here are the facts:
The third and final weekend of matches in women’s Division 2 is scheduled to take place at Haberdashers School on 16/17 November. But it can’t happen – because the machinery operating the pool’s movable floor system has a problem and needs to be repaired.
The League committee met today and discussed at length various options. Moving to another weekend altogether wasn’t practical, especially as the teams – from as far afield as Exeter and Kirkintilloch & Kilsyth – already have travel and accommodation bookings.
Finding an alternative pool capable of accommodating at short notice a full weekend programme proved impossible. The Committee also dismissed the option of using a pitch much reduced in size at Habs.
So it was agreed that the six-match Saturday programme would take place at the LAC training pool – with the remaining four matches on Sunday transferring to Northampton Boys’ School.
League Chairman David Andrews said: “We recognise, of course, that this isn’t an ideal arrangement but we hope our clubs will understand that we have done our best to find a suitable compromise. We will be sending information to all concerned explaining the logistics of the weekend – including revised match times and car parking at the Olympic Park.”
